About "us"
"We" are basically a one man operation. Currently, I, John Bullard, personally do all the designing, finding, and setting of all our stonework. You will not have a crew of poorly trained foreign workers descend on your project when you hire 'Six Mile Mountain'. I do most all of the actual work-- but with the faithful backing, advice and occasional help, of a very creative spouse, parents, friends, and suppliers---and with all those who have taught and influenced me over the years in mind---I can't help but think of my little company as "we".
Biography
John Scott Bullard was born in 1958 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He did most of his growing up and learning in the Fond du lac Wisconsin area. Fond du Lac is surrounded by stone quarries so John has had stone dust in his veins from an early age. In addition to working with his dad as a boy he spent many happy summers working on nearby dairy farms driving tractors, putting up hay, and milking countless Holsteins. After graduating from high-school in Wisconsin John moved with his parents in 1978 to the "upstate" region of South Carolina where he and his dad did stonework and general masonry for many years.
In 1985 John moved to the the New york City area to attend college. He worked full time there for twelve years while attending Montclair State College (b.a.) and New York University (m.a.)--working closely with master stonemason John Drobik (See our FAQ section for more information about his training).

John returned to South Carolina in 1998 and soon after went to Kiev, Ukraine for six months as a volunteer teacher and construction worker. While there he met Nataliya Dmytriyeva who became his wife in 2007. John and Nataliya are currently remodeling a house in the historic village of Newry, South Carolina where they will reside. In addition to masonry John loves woodworking and all things related to residential construction. When not engaged in working with his hands he can be most often found with his nose buried in a book (or the computer screen). He collects books and tools of all sorts---plays an occasional tune on the fiddle--and enjoys the game of Chess.
Sundays usually finds John in church where he sometimes delivers a sermon when the leadership is particularly desperate for a substitue. John's "pipe-dream" list includes: Building at least on unique, super quality house from the ground up; building a large wooden sailboat and crossing an ocean with it; Someday teaching building skills to young people in another country and communicating the Love of God in that context; learning to speak fluent Russian and Turkish.
